Overview of Platanillo Costa Rica
Platanillo is located between San Isidro and Dominical. It takes about 15 minutes to drive to the beach, and about 20 minutes to San Isidro. The town is at an elevation of about 300-400 meters above sea level, just high enough to ensure cool afternoons and evenings. It is the perfect climate.
Platanillo Costa Rica is a small village by any standard, but has one reasonably sized supermarket which provides many daily groceries. Most foreigners who live there go to San Isidro once a month for shopping and banking. There are a couple of small restaurants in Platanillo, which serve Costa Rican food.
The ocean views from Platanillo are in general not as incredible as from other mountain towns along the coast, due to a low ridge which blocks some of the beaches vistas. However, the surrounding mountains and valleys more than compensate in panoramic beauty. Though there are a fair amount of foreigners living in Platanillo, it is still a typical Costa Rican village.
Platanillo Costa Rica offers great hiking, birding, water-falling, mountain biking, and horseback riding. There are no banks or hardware stores, but there are several churches. The weather is awesome: warm during the days, cool at night.
