Ojochal Costa Rica Location
Ojochal is located near the Southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, about 30 kilometers (20 miles) south of Dominical and 20 kilometers north of Palmar Norte. Driving to Ojochal from San Jose takes about three hours on good paved roads, and the drive is very scenic. Another option is flying in to Palmar Sur (daily flights from San Jose are available), and driving to Ojochal from there (20 minutes).
Ojochal Costa Rica is not beachfront, as are Dominical, Matapalo, Uvita, and Bahia Ballena, but many of the homes in the Ojochal hills have gorgeous ocean views. Also, the town is right across the street from Tortuga Beach, and a few minutes from some amazing local beaches like Ventanas and Piñuelas.
Ojochal Costa Rica Amenities
In Ojochal you can find some of the things you will need, like bakeries, but most foreigners who live there go to either Palmar Norte (about 20 minutes ) or Cortez (about 15 minutes ). Though both these towns are smaller than San Isidro, they offer banks, hardware stores, and supermarkets with a reasonably good inventory. Cortez is the location of the Municipal government for the district of Osa, which covers most of the Pacific Coast South from Dominical.
Ojochal Costa Rica itself offers a few small supermarkets, a liquor store, and a very good selection of restaurants. There are a couple of bars and a small discotheque for night-time diversion.
Recently a small marina has been opened in the rivermouth of the Terraba river, just South of Ojochal. Though this is not a full service marina, they do offer docking and there is a guard to keep an eye on your boat. The marina also has a floating restaurant (which also does sunset cruises in the mangroves) which has been recommended by many.
You can get to the regional airport in Palmar Sur in about half an hour.

Ojochal’s own beach, Playa Tortuga (Turtle) is beautiful in its own right, though more rugged than the other ones. Though Ojochal seems just a small village when driving past it on the road, once driving into town, you will see that it is actually the largest village in the area.

Real Estate in Ojochal Costa Rica
Along with Dominical, Ojochal was the first town in the area where real estate took off. There are a number of cheap lots for sale, and homes in all the price categories. Many homes have sea views because they are in the surrounding mountains. Lots of other homes are in the flatter areas of Ojochal, where they have no sea view but very easy access. Not everybody cares enough about an ocean view to drive up a mountain road to see it every day — and all the nice homes in the flats of Ojochal Costa Rica are proof of it.
